Connection detail
Look closely at a roof joint.

The roof-joint example focuses on a sloped rafter and its bearing seat. A small model makes it easier to inspect the cut from different views before working on a larger roof.
1. Open the detail
Use Stud to create a new project from the roof-joint example. Open the viewer, show me the rafter and its bearing seat, and explain the slope, run, and seat inputs.
Ask the assistant to distinguish the example’s inputs from measured distances on the finished part. Keep units explicit throughout the discussion.
2. Inspect the cut
Switch between the perspective and side views. Select the rafter to inspect its dimensions. Zoom in on the seat and the supporting surface.
Show me the bearing contact and the material removed by the seat cut. Identify any geometric checks this example declares and anything it leaves unverified.
3. Compare a different slope
Create a saved revision using a 4-in-12 slope. Keep the run and support location fixed. Rebuild the joint, compare it with the starting version, and explain how the cut changed.
The starter uses a slope of 0.5, equivalent to 6-in-12. This revision gives you a shallower slope to compare.
4. Review before reuse
Use Versions to compare the detail and restore the version you prefer. Recheck the bearing geometry and stock fit after each revision.
This detail does not establish an allowable notch depth, span, or structural capacity. Confirm those requirements and the connection design before using the joint in a construction project.
